Kwāpādya – Akśobhya

Kwāpādya – Akśobhya

In the Vajrayana tradition, the main place of worship is called Mahavihara. And, in any Vajrayana Mahavihara, the shrine where the main deity or the jwel reside is the Kwāpādya. The kwpdya is considered the guardian of the community as well. Different Mahavihara have their own Kwāpādya. The Kwāpādya can be Sakyamuni Buddha or one of the Panca Buddhas. Here, the Kwāpādya is Akśobhya Buddha, one of the Pañca Buddhas. The Akṣobhya Buddha is the epitome of knowledge and conveys that one can overcome any kind of anger as well as hatred. His essence is the purified form of hatred. He sits in Vajrāsana position, displaying Bhūmisparśa Mudrā (earth-touching gesture). On either side of the main shrine sits Sakyamuni’s chief disciples, Śariputra and Maudagalyayana.
