Pañca Buddha

Gouache, Mineral Color and Gold on Cotton Canvas
15.24 x 48.26 cm
2026

This miniature work presents the Pañca Buddha within a composition inspired by ancient manuscript covers, rendered through traditional Paubha aesthetics. Each of the Five Tathāgatas embodies a distinct wisdom (Jñāna), transforming the five defilements into paths of enlightenment.

Shrestha integrates refined ornamental motifs and a balanced linear format, evoking the intimacy of sacred manuscripts. The inclusion of vāhanas for each Buddha adds a layered symbolic dimension, suggesting presence through association rather than direct emphasis.
