This work centers on Akṣobhya Buddha, the “Unshakable One,” depicted in his classical blue form embodying mirror-like wisdom and immovable awareness. Surrounding the central deity are innumerable Buddhas, evoking the infinite manifestations of awakened mind within Vajrayana cosmology.
The composition draws from the mandalic structure of the Sarvadurgati Pariśodhana Tantra, incorporating bodhisattvas, wrathful protectors, guardian figures, and symbolic elephants supporting the throne. Through repetition and sacred geometry, the painting transforms Akṣobhya into both a singular presence and an expansive contemplative field.
Trained from the age of twelve under his grandfather, a master of Newari Buddhist painting, Sudarshan’s practice is deeply rooted in lineage, discipline, and spiritual learning. His training extended beyond technique, encompassing meditation, mantra, visualization, and the preparation of pigments.
