Narasiṃha Nāca

Acrylic on Canvas

2026

Inspired by the Narasimha sequence of the historic Kartik Nach tradition of Patan, this painting captures the emotional and spiritual intensity of the masked ritual performance. Rather than presenting a literal depiction of the dance, Samundra Man Singh Shrestha transforms the movement of the performer into flowing layers of color, gesture, and atmosphere. The swirling strands of hair, circular garlands, and dissolving background evoke the rhythm of drums and the charged presence of Narasimha as both protector and divine force.

Through expressive brushwork and fluid motion, the artist explores the inner bhāva of the dance, where devotion, transformation, and inherited ritual memory merge into a single moment of suspended energy.
