Pacali Bhairava

Acrylic on Canvas
182.88 x 121.92 cm
2025

Drawing from the rare and vibrant ritual traditions associated with Pachali Bhairava of Kathmandu, this painting captures the charged atmosphere of the masked deity dance rather than a fixed narrative moment. Swirling strokes of color and light dissolve the boundaries between performer, movement, and ritual space, evoking the energy of the jatra and the collective devotion of the community that sustains it. The fierce gaze of Bhairava emerges through layers of motion, embodying both protection and transformation.

Through expressive brushwork, the artist reflects the fleeting intensity of a living tradition that appears only at sacred intervals yet remains deeply rooted in the cultural memory of the Valley.
