About the Art

This is one of the oldest and rare forms of representation of Goddess Ushnishvijaya, the Buddhist deity. She embodies a magical spell (dharani), which practitioners recite achieve liberation by accumulating merit. Ushnishvijaya is an emanation of Shakyamuni buddha. She appeared from a ray of light emanated from the crown ornament (Ushnisha) of the Buddha. The color of Ushnishavijaya is that of an autumn moon having eight hands.
