About the Art

Garuda is a powerful mythical bird-like deity in Hindu and Buddhist traditions, symbolizing strength, speed, and divine protection. In Hinduism, he is the mighty mount (vahana) of Lord Vishnu, known for his immense power and ability to travel between realms. Depicted with the body of a man and the wings, beak, and talons of an eagle, Garuda is revered as the enemy of serpents (Nāgas), representing the triumph of light over darkness. In Buddhist mythology, he is considered a guardian of the Dharma, often appearing in tantric texts as a protector against negative forces and diseases. His image is widely used in sacred art, flags, and royal insignias across South and Southeast Asia, embodying vigilance, wisdom, and divine might.
