About the Art

The Dharmachakra Mudra, also known as the "Wheel of Dharma" gesture, is a significant hand position in Buddhist iconography, symbolizing the teaching and transmission of Buddha’s wisdom. This mudra represents the moment when Buddha delivered his first sermon at Sarnath, setting in motion the wheel of Dharma. In this gesture, both hands are held at chest level, with the thumb and index finger of each hand touching to form a circle, symbolizing the continuous flow of wisdom. The right hand, representing wisdom, faces outward, while the left hand, symbolizing compassion, faces inward. This mudra embodies the balance between knowledge and practice, guiding practitioners toward enlightenment and inner harmony. It is commonly depicted in images of Buddha and is revered as a powerful symbol of spiritual awakening and the eternal cycle of Dharma.
