RULES AND REGULATIONS

1. Bags and Baggage

Day-packs and handbags are not allowed inside the Museum, please leave in Reception.

Rucksacks and suitcases must be left in the Hotel Reception - obtain receipt.

2. Photographic and Filming

For the safety of our visitors and collections, follow following photography guidelines.

  1. Museum visitors are permitted to take photographs only for personal and non-commercial use.
  2. Photographs taken on the premises cannot be published, sold, reproduced, transferred, distributed, or otherwise commercially exploited in any manner whatsoever.
  3. Visitors may not use flash, tripod or monopod.
  4. For Video and the use of movie or film cameras contact Reception in advance.
  5. Please show consideration for the experience and privacy of other visitors when taking photographs.
  6. Do not take photographs of other visitors, staff, administrative offices, Special Exhibitions Gallery, Special Project Space and Education Centre without prior permission.
  7. Photography is permitted in the Museum Shop.
  8. Any enquiries relating to press, the use of images for publication and commercial filming and photography – please see below application form.

3. Strollers

Strollers are permitted in MONA. Wheels must be clean. Access via Lift, if necessary, contact Reception.

4. Security and Policies

The safety of MONA visitors, volunteers, staff, and collections is of the highest importance.

We have implemented security measures to ensure your safety and the safety of the objects contained within. We practice security checks of bags etc and request your compliance.

Because of the security measures, the lines for entry to the museums may be long during peak seasons and holidays. We ask for your patience, cooperation, and assistance.

Please consider leaving any items that need to be checked by security at home or at your hotel.

Many items are prohibited at MONA, for example pocket knives, scissors, firearms, pepper spray and inflammable materials.

In case of emergency, MONA retains the right to conduct visitors out of the building in an orderly fashion. Here, and at any time, visitors may be subjected to personal inspection.

5. Smoking

Smoking is prohibited in the Museum space.

6. Prohibited Conduct

Visitation policies at MONA are designed to protect visitors and staff as well as secure and preserve the collections in the care of MONA.

While on MONA premises it is prohibited to:

  • Carry firearms, other dangerous or deadly weapons, or explosives, either openly or concealed.

The prohibition on firearms applies to all visitors, including those with firearm permits, but not to active law enforcement personnel authorized to carry firearms.

  • Display or carry placards, signs, or banners.
  • Destroy, damage, or remove property.
  • Climb upon any part of a building.
  • Use loud, abusive, or otherwise improper language.
  • Loiter, sleep, or participate in unwarranted assemblies.
  • Perform obscene or indecent acts.
  • Engage in disorderly conduct.
  • Use, possess, or sell illegal drugs.
  • Bring dogs or other animals, other than service animals.
  • Take photographs for advertising or any other commercial purpose.
  • Solicit for commercial or charitable purposes or distribute advertisements, pamphlets, handbills, flyers etc.

Visitors who violate these rules will be asked to leave, or in the case of illegal activities, subject to fine or imprisonment.

7. Lockers and Checkrooms

Security requires all bags be inspected before they can be placed in lockers. Bags must be collected before closing time. The museum will not be held responsible for any damage to or loss of goods checked by a visitor.

8. Lost and Found

Found items should be delivered to Reception, where they will be registered and held for up to 48 hours.
