Svayambhū Yatra

Acrylic on Canvas
91.44 x 152.4 cm

This work depicts the Gunla festival, a sacred month in the Newar Buddhist calendar when devotees gather daily for ritual practice at the Svayambhū Mahā Caitya. Through processions, circumambulation, prayer, and music, the community renews its spiritual connection with the sacred site.

Pant emphasizes the devotional atmosphere through the presence of Bajan Khalas, whose performances of Gunla Bajan with instruments such as Dhā, Bhusyā, and Naye Khīn transform sound into offering. The composition captures the movement of ritual alongside the stillness of the stupa, creating a balance between activity and contemplation.
