Shakya shares, “Art is such a profession in which there is no boundary of subject to work with and can be expressed in versatile media as one wishes. That’s why this profession attracted me. Moreover, there is no any timetable to stay in studio like office time. I can create work alone or collaborate with other people or group. This is the most flexible profession to me which has enabled me to experience work freedom and self-satisfaction; major factors that made me stick in this profession”.
Born in 1974, Shakya completed her Master’s Degree in Business Administration at T.U. Kathmandu and Bachelors in Fine Art (Advanced Painting) at the Center for Art and Design, Kathmandu University respectively. She did A-Level in art (GCE Advanced Supplementary Art and Design) from Rato Bangala School.
She had 2 solo Exhibitions - 'Chaitya’ at Siddhartha Art Gallery 2010, and ‘Fragmented Memories’ at Baryo Fiesta, Kathmandu 2007. She has done various collaborative works and group exhibitions. She is a skilled illustrator and has created book cover design and illustration for various publication and organization.
She has coordinated various workshops such as ‘Serendipity’ Experimental printmaking workshop, organized by Lasanaa and Sirjana College of Fine Arts in 2010 and ‘Women’s Art Workshop - Woodcut Print’ organized by NAFA in 2013. She participated in numerous art workshops, including 'Woodpecker’ woodcut print making workshop, Kathmandu 2013, ‘Ceramics Workshop’ organized by NAFA 2013, ‘Mechanism in Native Culture’ printmaking-workshop organized by NAFA 2012, ‘Interactive Art Through Social Media’ organized by Space A and Art Nepal 2010, based on the drama ‘The house with Mezzanine’ by Russian writer Anton Chekhov organized by Russian Center of Science and Culture jointly with Sathsath Theater 2009, ‘Early Childhood Development through the Art’ organized by Tashi Waldorf School Nepal 2001 A.D. etc.
She is a Lecturer at Kathmandu University Dept. of Art and Design and at several other education institutions. She was a part of training program for teacher-trainers at Reed Nepal (Rural Education & Environment Center) Art in Education. She was associated with Lasanaa, An Alternative Art Space in various capacities.
