About the Art

Bhairav or Bhairava is the furious aspect of Shiva or Mahadeva, which is manifested in the Newar tantric tradition in eight main forms. This wrathful mask is called Halahal Bhairava or Akash Bhairava. The Sanskrit name Akash refers to 'sky or space,'. Luckily three bulging eyes of Akash Bhairav 's mask look up to the sky since his terrible eyes claim they ruin everything his baleful look falls upon.
